En Vacance

I love France and wish I could live there. I love the French way of life and the way everything revolves around family. My husbands father's family live there and in fact my husbands grandmother was a French woman who married an Englishman during the 1st world war.

My father in law escaped from France and through Spain during the Nazi occupation of France. He ended up in a prison in Spain from which he eventually got away. The funny thing is that once him and my mother-in-law went to Spain on holiday and his wallet was stolen. Guess where he had to report the loss? That's right the prison is now a police station.
Anyway he met an English woman and reversed the whole process as he went to live in England. There goes a brief history of a fascinating story.
Anyway these were taken the year we went for two weeks to a Gite near St Omer. Unfortunately my Mom died while we were away - we were expecting it and I had said Goodbye on the day we left. She was in a comma from which she never awoke.
I learnt the point is be there while they are alive and need you not when they have died. A funeral is just for the living not the one who has died. In many cases the people that go never visited the person for years, but they were good they showed up at the funeral.

Quad Bikes

You may have seen the 4x4 Post I did. Well that same day my son-in-laws mom, who is very glamorous, got on the grand kids quad bikes and she adored it. She even gave a lift to her cousin's wife Credwyn.

Life is so precious we need to enjoy every moment of it. Yesterday 28 September Yvonne turned 60 and I just want to say I hope her day was great and that the days and many years ahead are also great. Can you believe we are these ages. I still feel like I am in my 30's - may not look it but that's how I feel.

The only thing I did not design is the striped paper which was a freebie from www.scrapgirls.com

Have a great day

Tuesday Blues

Well it's normally Monday blues but with having a long weekend it really feels yuck to be thinking about working and the like.

Hope like a load of South Africans (last count we got was 77523 people) you had a braai or barbecue yesterday to celebrate Heritage Day. (check this website http://www.braaiday.co.za/)

We went to one with the family and it was so nice to sit in the sunshine and enjoy fabulous weather. It was so funny though as everyone was just praying for rain as being on the Highveld we have not seen rain for months. Everything is dry and in need of water. In fact tired of the dogs going out and rolling in the grass and dust and bringing so much dirt and dry lawn in. Shouldn't complain though as we are blessed with so many things and you can always sweep up the grass husks and dust.

Here is a page showing my grandmother, aunt and other friends and family. This brings up one of my favourite subjects. Journalling. I inherited loads of photos when my mom died and because no one had ever written names times etc on the photos or the like, I have lost so much detail. SO when you do that page put journalling on it so that your descendants can know their antecedents. It also is a historical record of what life was like. Look at the little bow tie and outfit of my cousin. Can you imagine a modern day child dressed like that?

After all that is what scrapbooking is about.

Have a great day and think about journalling.

A Wake Up call

Sometimes we go merrily along with life without thinking. We are so wrapped up in day to day problems that we don't think about what is important. Somehow we need a wake up call and I got mine yesterday when I had a medical. I had not been taking care as I should have. I had not appreciated what was important in life and had not given the respect to everyone that I should have. Thank You God for making me realise what precious gifts you have given me. I know that whatever the outcome God is with me and that he will see me through this whatever the prognosis.

Don't wait until you get a wake up call as it just might not come. - I am lucky.

Thank you firends and family for being you.

Turning corners

I just did my first page where i made a folded corner. Instructions on how to do it can be found here http://www.snapandscrap.net/index.php?categoryid=15 at Snap and Scrap. It is 'Easy Page Curl' and if you check it out there are loads of other great tutorials

Here is my first effort. Unfortunately when I saved it I did not realise my corner had moved and so it is not right, but that just means I get to keep trying until I master it. So watch out for another corner curl soon
Get trying it

Global Village

I never cease to be amazed at how the internet allows us to interact. Being born long before computers let alone the internet or windows etc. I still get amazed with technology. My brother in law David is busy digitizing his 35mm slides and he sent me pictures from them that we had never seen. This is a page made with a photo of my second daughter Sarah. Because she was second I hate to say we did not have a lot of photos of her - cost etc as we were really hard up with one salary only.

I can't believe how brown she is but it was a year of drought in England and it was so hot and sunny. She also has a predispostion for turning brown instead of burning like me.

Life has changed so much since those days when I remember sitting outside in the heat at 11h00 oclock at night with neighbours and a bottle of wine {a real treat}

Pen Holder For My Desk

I needed a new pen holder for my desk at one of my companies and decided to do a bit of altered work. I started of with a Woolworths Chick Pea can. This was good because it is a ring pool and so inside the edges are not so sharp. I tried really hard to cut myslef but only managed a paper cut.

Empty it, wash out and remove the label. here it is together with some ribbons and card from My Minds Eye Bohemia range and this is Bluebird "Brothers" harlequin/brown.

Next cut a piece of card or paper to the correct hieght and using double sided tape attach it to the can

Now decorate as you please. I used ribbon at the top and bottom and a flowere secured together with a brad.

A simple quick idea and they sell them at some craft shops etc. for money.

I am now going to make a container for paper squares for telephone notes in the same card etc.

watch this space

Welcome to this site

I am addicted to scrap booking and love digital scrapping, but do prefer the feel and touch of good old fashioned paper scrapping.

Here are some pictures of my grandson on holiday
